Loggerhead Turtles Returned to the Sea After Washing Ashore

Two loggerhead turtles were released back in to the water after spending weeks recovering from being washed up on British shores. When the pair were found, one at Devon and one at Cornwall earlier this year, they were suffering from hypothermia and infections. They have been nursed back to health by the Blue Reef Aquarium in Newquay, Cornwall, and flown to Gran Canaria to be released...

15 Million Dollar Donation Given to Smithsonian Ocean Hall

Chairman of the Smithsonian Institution Board of Regents, Roger Sant and his wife, Vicki, announced donation of $15 million to the Smtihsonian new Ocean Hall. Invisible Waves Shape Continental Slope

AUSTIN, Texas—A class of powerful, invisible waves hidden beneath the surface of the ocean can shape the underwater edges of continents and contribute to ocean mixing and climate, researchers from The University of Texas at Austin have found.
The scientists simulated ocean conditions in a laboratory aquarium and found that "internal waves" generate intense currents when traveling at the same angle as that of the continental slope.
